“Sitting on the shores Lake Superior, Duluth, Minnesota would likely be far from the first place that comes to mind to look for a hard-picking bluegrass band. Yet that’s where Trampled By Turtles call home.”

Rhode Island is often associated with the small stuff. Locals (proudly) call it the “biggest little state in the union”; I’ve even heard creative math that lil’ Rhody is 3% bigger at low tide. But what Rhode Island lacks in square miles, it makes up for in talent and artistry. This year, we’re proud to bring Death Vessel to the stages of Newport Folk. The layers of sound and the scales that Joel Thibodeau can cover is what first caught my attention. Knowing that he represents Rhode Island only makes his artistry more special.
There are 161 days until Death Vessel steps onto the stage at Newport. In that time, explore his music. His new album Island Intervals – produced by Jonsi of Sigur Rós will be released on February 25. That should give you ample time to get to know yet another reason why lil’ Rhody is so great.

This summer we’ve seen tons of indie acts and pop stars take the stage, so we decided to mix it up a bit….

Last weekend we hit the road for Rhode Island’s Newport Folk Fest. The music may have bit a little bit more low key, but the fashion was just as fabulous as ever.

Get in touch with your inner boho-beauty thanks to inspiration from the fest’s best street style »

Some summer fashion on this gloomy day.

Newport festivals added $5M to RI economy in 2012.

Since 2009, Kingsley Flood have been one of Boston’s hardest working bands – and certainly one of her best. Combining elements of Americana, Country and Folk, they released the 2010 full-length debut Dust Windows – and they quickly became one of the region’s most skilled (and routinely wonderful) live acts.
